New York State Police Governor Addresses 88 New State Troopers
Albany, NY (June 9, 2009) - Governor David A. Paterson and New York State Police Superintendent Harry J. Corbitt today honored 88 new troopers at ceremonies marking the completion of the 197th Session of the Basic School of the New York State Police Academy. The new troopers will report for field duty on June 23, 2009, and for the following ten weeks will be evaluated under a field-training program supervised by senior Field Training Officers.

New York State Police New Troop G Headquarters Plans Move Forward
(Albany, NY - March 13, 2009) - Plans to build a new Troop G Headquarters for the New York State Police continue to move forward. As a result of major deficiencies and the outdated state of the current facility built in Loudonville in 1957, the State Police initiated relocation plans in January of 2003. Legislation authorized the sale of the current Troop G Headquarters property to Siena College in August of 2003, and in June of 2006 the transfer of ownership was executed. State Police anticipate breaking ground for site preparation in June of this year.

Salary, Promotions, Benefits and Retirement

Starting Base Salary

Effective April 1, 2010

  • $50,374 - Starting salary (during Academy training)

  • $66,905 - Upon graduation from the Academy

  • $71,261 - After one year

  • $84,739 - After five years

Salaries do not include: Longevity compensation; hazardous duty compensation; expanded duty pay or additional location compensation for New York City and the following counties: Dutchess, Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk, and Westchester.

Promotion

There are numerous promotional opportunities from Sergeant to Superintendent through competitive and appointive processes for both the Uniformed Force and Bureau of Criminal Investigation. A few examples are provided below:

  • You may apply to be appointed as an Investigator in the Bureau of Criminal Investigation after 4 years of service or after 2 years of service with a Bachelor's Degree. Base Salary: $94,335

  • You may compete in the promotional process for the supervisory rank of Sergeant after 4 years. Base Salary: $99,849

  • You may compete in the promotional process for the middle management rank of Lieutenant after serving 2 years as a Sergeant. Base Salary: $119,365

Salaries listed above for Investigator, Sergeant and Lieutenant do not include: Longevity compensation; hazardous duty compensation; command pay; expanded duty pay; maintenance pay, holiday pay; expertise pay; overtime; or additional location compensation for New York City and the following counties: Dutchess, Nassau, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk, and Westchester.
